Liz Smith MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, alongside local communities, has been working to save the 155 - Perth - Crieff service which is due to be withdrawn at the end of June.
Commenting Liz said,
"Clearly, there is currently a major issue with rural bus services across Scotland, and the route 155 reflects some of the pressures facing rural transport providers.
"The 155 is, however, an important route which links several small rural villages between Crieff and Perth where there are families with youngsters who need transport into school, and it is the obligation of the council to provide this service for pupils. I have written to both Docherty’s and Perth and Kinross Council highlighting the serious implications for local families.
"Likewise, the route is close to one of Perthshire’s most successful rural assets, namely Gloagburn Farm Shop, which attracts visitors from afar and is a major employer for the region. I have been in contact with Gloagburn and I know they are very keen that the 155 stays in place to provide better customer and staff access from Perth, and if we can boost this demand we could save the service.
"In what is Scottish Bus Week, I hope that Perth and Kinross Council and Docherty’s will reconsider the impending discontinuation and I know that is the view of everyone in the local community".
