Thursday 23rd March will be a national day of reflection as we mark the anniversary of the first national lockdown due to COVID-19. This will be a sombre day for us all as we reflect on the past three years but none more so than for all those who lost loved ones either to COVID or during the pandemic. It must have been heart-breaking for those who were not able to gather to remember loved ones during the lockdown periods. A bench has been placed in the Blairgowrie Cemetery with a cherry tree planted next to it and spring bulbs planted too. There are similar benches located in other cemeteries in Perth and Kinross. As the trees establish themselves and the bulbs flower, this spot will be a lovely area for reflection within the cemetery2, and a reminder of the terrible toll COVID-19 took on so many.
The Friends of Blairgowrie Cemetery group have now agreed a plan of work with PKC and have highlighted areas of the cemetery which we want to see the council improve, as well as works that we will undertake. We hope to get started after Easter and have established a Facebook page for anyone who wants to get involved and make a difference to the cemetery. Thank you to those who have already indicated they are interested.
