Following the news that Kilgraston School is to close, Cllr David Illingworth, Scottish Conservative Councillor for Almond and Earn, said:
"The closure of Kilgraston School is desperately sad for pupils, parents, staff and everyone who has worked so hard to keep this wonderful school open.
"Kilgraston had a reputation for providing a very high quality of education with girls achieving great academic success. It also offered particularly good pastoral support for pupils. The school was a significant employer in the area, employing not just teaching staff but support staff such as librarians, drivers, cleaners and grounds staff as well. This will be a great loss to the Bridge of Earn community.
"It’s hard to tell if Labour’s policy of taxing education by imposing VAT on school fees played a part in the closure decision, but it can’t have helped matters. The independent education sector are the largest employers in Almond and Earn ward, they offer many bursaries to families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend and play a significant part in local communities.”
