Liz Smith MSP has today expressed her concerns that the residents in Methven, and especially those who live very rurally, or who rely on public transport, will be most hit by proposed changes to healthcare provision in the future. This comes after news of a proposal to move services from Methven Branch Surgery to Victoria Practice in the Glover Street Medical Centre.
Liz Smith wrote to the Practice Manager today (copy of her letter is below).
In the letter Liz states,
"It is true that many patients from the Methven area are already used to attending Glover Street but that is not the case for others in Methven’s rural hinterland. On July 1st the No 155 bus service was withdrawn thereby discontinuing services to those who live around the Tibbermore and Balgowan communities- both close to Methven. You will be aware of the concerns within the local community about the discontinuation of this service so l would be grateful if you could tell me what discussions you have had with Perth and Kinross Council regarding bus service access for patients who do not find it easy to use the No 15 service from Crieff."
Commenting Liz said,
"I am concerned to read about these proposals which once again look likely to affect those who live most rurally or who don't have access to a car. We need to ensure the views of patients are taken into account and that the issues being raised around access to services are addressed. I look forward to hearing how the specific issues I have raised are responded to and I would encourage all who are affected by this proposal to have their say in the consultation, which runs until 4 September."
