A Conservative Councillor has highlighted the success of the previous local authority administration in tackling homelessness in Perth and Kinross.
Bob Brawn was commenting following the release of figures by the Scottish Government which show that Perth and Kinross Council achieved an average of 64 days for the duration of homelessness – the national average was 256 days. The statistics also revealed that Perth and Kinross had the shortest length of stay in temporary accommodation in 2021/22, with an average of 60 days. The national average was 207 days.
In addition, the region had the lowest number of households in temporary accommodation by population. It had 42 households per 100,000 population. The national average was 305 households.
Commenting, Councillor Bob Brawn, the spokesperson for Housing for the Conservative opposition in Perth and Kinross, said: “The statistics are indicative of the importance that the previous Administration, and myself as the then Convenor of the Housing Committee, placed on dealing with homelessness and the ongoing support given to the Home First approach and the Housing Service.
“With these results, it is no surprise that Perth and Kinross is recognised as the leading authority and that the experience of Home First has allowed us to deliver a Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan well within the five-year timescale set by the Scottish Government.”
Councillor Brawn continued: “Without doubt, all credit is due to all the officers in the Housing Service whose dedication has helped so many individuals and families at a difficult time in their lives.”
