Auchterarder’s Parkdale Care Home should be saved from the chopping block according to Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith.
Perth and Kinross Council and the health and social care partnership team are currently consulting on the future of their three care homes - Beechgrove in Perth, Parkdale in Auchterarder and Dalweem in Aberfeldy.
Liz Smith MSP said:
“Closing care homes when we have an ageing population is completely counterproductive.
“Auchterarder is growing fast and is one of the UK’s most desirable retirement locations and the Parkdale home must remain open to serve this community.
“Since the launch of this consultation I have spoken to a number of local residents who are very concerned at the prospective closure of the Parkdale care home.
“Residents in Auchterarder are happy with the service and level of care offered at Parkdale and are understandably concerned by the threat of closure.
“Ultimately, both the Council and the health and social care partnership must provide efficiency savings but this cannot come at the expense of care home provision.
“I would hope that the Council and the social care partnership think long and hard before wielding the axe in Auchterarder.”
