Perth and Kinross Council have started work on improvements to Methven Primary School which include measures to build a new gym and dining hall being built to the highest possible environmentally friendly Passivhaus standards. In addition to this there will be installation of electric vehicle charging points and a new drop off zone for school transport. Progress on delivery of this project has been welcomed this week by Liz Smith MSP and local councillors.
Liz said,
"The past few weeks our news has been dominated by the discussions at COP 26 about how we address climate change. I was delighted to read of Perth and Kinross Council taking huge steps to make public buildings more energy efficient and actually delivering on their commitments by ensuring new buildings such as those at Methven Primary School are built to Passivhaus standards. Alongside that electric vehicle charging points are being installed and a new area for school transport is being installed. Methven serves a significant rural area and this will be very welcome.
"The investment in the building will be warmly welcomed by the school and wider community and I thank our local ward councillors for lobbying for this investment and look forward to seeing the project progress.
Almond and Earn Councillor David Illingworth commented,
"It is great to see this important project for Methven really beginning to take shape. The 40 year old derelict portacabins are now gone revealing the beauty of the Edwardian main building. 4 trees have been cut down and fresh tree planting will take place to replace them. The memorial bench for the Melville family will be moved to a new home on the site following consultation with the community. The new gym and dining hall will benefit the children attending Methven Primary School for many years to come.
Councillor Frank Smith added,
"Living very close to the school, the younger pupils can be seen taking their mile walk around Methven Park. I feel encouraged to know that as they progress through their school years and for those that come after them, they will benefit from a modern build for their educational requirements. The Scottish Conservative administration has instigated this particular project for the Methven area and I am delighted to be involved.
Councillor Kathleen Baird said,
"I am delighted that this long awaited upgrade at Methven Primary school is progressing. I am sure pupils will enjoy watching the building take shape and are looking forward to using the new facilities . This is another example of the Conservative Administration working with Communities to improve school estate ."
