Commenting on the proposed bin strikes, Liz said: "This week we have seen awful images from Edinburgh of rubbish piling up as a result of the strikes by refuse collection staff. I am very concerned that we may see similar in Perth and Kinross if the planned strikes are not called off. As well as the frustrations and challenges this will present for residents - this is of particular concern to those in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Late summer and the autumn are key times for visitors to Perth and Kinross and this would be the last thing needed.
"Fundamentally, the savage cuts to local authority budgets lie at the heart of this dispute. Ministers need to get a grip and ensure a positive solution is reached before this situation gets any more out of control."
