Murdo Fraser MSP has praised the “tremendous effort” from kind-hearted residents across Perth and Kinross to help people in Ukraine at this difficult time.
The Scottish Conservative politician is delighted at the number of donations being handed in to Perth Polish Scouts, which will then be transported to the Polish border with Ukraine later this week.
And earlier this week, he met with the Reverend John Murdoch, of St John’s Kirk in Perth, which has opened its doors to anyone who wishes to visit and light a candle and say a prayer for the people of Ukraine.
Commenting, Mr Fraser, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “I have been delighted with the tremendous effort of residents in Perth and Kinross to help the people of Ukraine during this unprecedented time. I must single out special praise to the Perth Polish Scouts who are looking for a range of items to be donated.
“I know of a family in Strathearn who had made it known that they would take donations to give to the Perth Polish Scouts, and amazingly had 60 bags of clothes, medicines and water handed in from the surrounding area in just 12 hours.
“I have lodged a Motion at Holyrood congratulating the Perth Polish Scouts on their campaign and I’m sure it will garner cross-party political support.”
Mr Fraser continued: “The Perth Polish Scouts donation efforts are just incredible, and they underline how many communities in Perth and Kinross have rallied round to help and show solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
“I was similarly touched when I visited St John’s Kirk in Perth and spoke to Reverend John Murdoch, who told me they are open from 10am to 4pm every day, to allow those who wish to visit and light a candle and say a prayer for Ukraine and its citizens.
“These are horrendous times for Ukraine, something many of us never imagined would happen in our lifetime, so it’s important to show our support for them.”
