Murdo Fraser MSP has highlighted the importance of traffic measures being installed to tackle congestion and lengthy queues of vehicles at the Broxden roundabout in Perth.
The Scottish Conservative politician is concerned at the “slow progress” being made by the Scottish Government on when they will actually give the go-ahead for work to address the issue.
Mr Fraser recently received a response from Transport Scotland after writing to them to ask what steps are being taken to try to improve traffic flows at the Broxden roundabout.
Commenting, Mr Fraser, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “I am concerned at the length of time it is taking to address congestion at the Broxden roundabout. When the economy gets back to post-Covid normality, we will see a return to the problem of long delays at the roundabout again as traffic flows will have recovered by then.
“Local residents, and those who travel via the Broxden roundabout on the outskirts of Perth, are all too familiar of how there can often be long queues of traffic tailing back along all the major routes, particularly at peak times.
“I know in the past that Transport Scotland have looked at improvements to the roundabout, including potentially installing traffic lights to better manage traffic flows. In addition, I feel that a relatively simple improvement could be made by creating a slip road on the A9 going northwards to bypass the Broxden roundabout, which would assist traffic going north.”
Mr Fraser continued: “I welcome the fact that Transport Scotland has said that further traffic modelling is being progressed in consultation with Perth and Kinross Council. I also recognise that they have stated that ‘large-scale’ improvements will require significant funding.
“However, I hope that the Broxden roundabout will one of the projects that they focus on following a 12-week consultation process that they have embarked on. There has been a problem of traffic congestion at the roundabout for many years - we need confirmation from the Scottish Government that action will be taken to address this as soon as possible."
