Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has called on fellow MSPs, even those from Edinburgh, to support the return of the Stone of Destiny from Edinburgh Castle to the centre of Perth.
Following news that an official request would be lodged to ask for the stone’s return to Perth, Murdo has submitted a motion in parliament backing this move.
Return of the Stone of Destiny to Perth would form a central part of Perth’s bid to be named UK City of Culture 2021 and Murdo believes that it would be hugely beneficial to the local economy.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“The return of the Stone of Destiny to Perth would be a huge boost to Perth and its local economy as it looks to be named UK City of Culture 2021.
“I have previously petitioned for its return to Perth and Kinross and believe that if successful the stone could act as a centrepiece among the Fair City’s tourist attractions.
“In Edinburgh the Stone of Destiny is just one of a number of stellar attractions, it’s time that we shared these tourism crown jewels around Scotland. Just as Dundee has seen huge investment with the V and A project, Perth must have the Stone of Destiny returned and a renovated museum and city hall to house it.”
