Figures released this week show that across Scotland cyber-crimes have risen yet again. Liz Smith MSP commented on the figures and urged residents across Perth and Kinross to continue to be vigilant and to support any vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.
Commenting, Liz said, "The publication this week of Police Scotland's estimated figure for cyber-crimes make stark reading. In the figures we see a huge increase on cases reported for the previous year. We also know that the figures don't include unreported crimes. I would encourage residents and those who work in our communities to continue to raise awareness and ensure that any crimes are reported to Police Scotland. There is a huge amount of support available on local and national websites and through financial institutions such as banks and building societies. We need to also ensure that Police Scotland have the resources they need to tackle these growing areas of crime and that the penalties for those found guilty of cyber-crimes fit the crime."
