Scottish Conservatives have welcomed the announcement of £250,000 of funding for the ‘Rannoch Hub’ pub and community centre, which was announced in the UK Budget.
The funding has been awarded as part of the UK Government’s Community Ownership fund, which was established to empower local communities to own and manage their most treasured local community assets.
The project will include a Community Hub and commercial café/bar, providing free business and leisure facilities.
It is expected that the project will encourage local activity and economic development in the local community.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative MSP for the Mid Scotland and Fife region, Murdo Fraser, said: “This is a fantastic investment from the UK Government into the Rannoch area.
“The Community Hub will encourage economic growth in the area and provide a free and vibrant space for the local residents to enjoy.
“This investment from Rishi Sunak and the UK Government shows the support and security our local communities gain from being part of a strong United Kingdom.”
And Councillor John Duff, who represents the Highland Ward for the Scottish Conservatives, added: “The news that the Chancellor has awarded £250,000 from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund direct to the Rannoch Community Hub project is absolutely fantastic news for the community and I congratulate the committee on having grasped this brand-new funding opportunity with both hands.
“This project will make an immense difference and I am delighted that the Chancellor has recognised the positive transformation that these funds can make to this remote rural community. I would encourage other organisations to consider the UK Levelling Up Fund as a potential source of funding for other significant projects.”
