Liz Smith MSP has this week expressed her concern at the disastrous impact that the new licencing scheme for short-term lets, voted through by the SNP-Green coalition, will have on Perth and Kinross tourism businesses.
Commenting Liz said,
"This legislation is the last thing that any business needs at this time. Since these ill thought out regulations were first proposed I have received contact from small businesses and the wider tourism sector, the length and breadth of Mid Scotland and Fife with no-one supporting it. These businesses have had to struggle more in the past two years than at any other time and the Scottish Government have simply ignored the voices of this vital sector within the Scottish economy.
"There is a very real risk that small businesses in Mid Scotland and Fife will now be more at risk of collapse. With that will come loss of jobs, loss of income within rural communities and a reduction in choice of tourism accommodation. The SNP-Green coalition have just proven, again, that they are out of touch with the pressures on small businesses. I will continue to do all I can to represent their interests and to support them as they face another challenge at a time when frankly, they need the Scottish Government to give them support and not further regulations like these."
