With ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in place and end of term activities at primary and secondary schools again being affected, Liz Smith MSP has expressed her hope that we will see a return to normal activities in the near future.
Commenting, Liz said,
"With the end of another school year affected by COVID-19 approaching, it is sad to see that days of celebration of the achievements of children and young people have been affected for a second year. Annual events like sports day, prize-giving and all those other dates that normally mark the school year and give parents and carers the opportunity to celebrate the successes of their children have had to move online or be held without spectators. Schools have been so creative in finding ways to mark these events such as online prize-giving events but I have spoken to many parents who are hugely disappointed they have not been able to attend. I understand that frustration, especially given that accommodation has been made for football fans to attend fan zones to watch the Euros. I very much hope that we will see a return to normal activities in the near future.
"To all the young people set to leave school and those moving up from primary to secondary, I wish them every success and although we have not been able to mark the end of this academic year in the usual manner it is important that young people have the opportunity to reflect on their time at school and the opportunities open to them in the future."
