Liz Smith MSP and Cllr Roz McCall have welcomed the return of free festive parking for Christmas and New Year 2021.
The local authority’s Enterprise and Infrastructure Committee approved the measure, which is geared to support local business during the Christmas period, as the pandemic continues.
The free festive parking will operate in council-owned car parks across Perth and Kinross on each weekend in December from Saturday, December 4 until Saturday, December 25 inclusive.
Commenting, Councillor Roz McCall, who is the Business Ambassador for Perth and Kinross Council, said: “It is really important that we make some soft changes as well as significant ones. The environment is our biggest concern and we are making many changes as a council in this capacity.
“However, as many people have mentally suffered from isolation due to the pandemic restrictions and businesses have equally suffered in loss of revenue, we want to encourage festive cheer, reduce the bah-humbug for a few weeks and hopefully provide our residents and retailers a very merry Christmas.”
Liz Smith MSP added,
"This is great news for our rural towns and I would encourage everyone to do what they can to support local businesses this Christmas. Shopping locally and buying from local producers is one of the most important ways we can support our local economy. Let's remember it was local businesses who kept our communities going through lockdown over the past two years and anything we can do to support them will make a real difference. I applaud the support of Perth and Kinross Council in making these steps to encourage footfall. "
