Murdo Fraser MSP has expressed solidarity with Ukrainian citizens currently living in Mid Scotland and Fife following the invasion by Russia.
The Scottish Conservative politician expressed his sympathy at what he recognises must be a “deeply worrying” time for them.
Mr Fraser said he was “appalled” at the actions taken by President Vladimir Putin who ordered his Russian troops to invade Ukraine.
Russia has claimed that it has already attempted to destroy around 70 military targets in Ukraine and it has been reported that its troops are attempting to seize the Chernobyl nuclear plant.
Commenting, Mr Fraser, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “I am appalled and shocked at the aggressive actions of Putin and his Russian troops in invading Ukraine. This must be a deeply worrying time for Ukrainian nationals living in Mid Scotland and Fife as they think of family and friends back home during this extremely troubling time.
“I am aware there are some Ukrainian families living in Perth and Fife and I would like them to know that I express solidarity with them at this very difficult time. This invasion must be condemned, and I back the actions of the UK Government which aim to counter Russian aggression and support Ukraine.
“This invasion was entirely unprovoked and unjustified, and it is reassuring that all political parties at Holyrood are unanimous in their condemnation of it.”
