Following a report to the Learning and Families Committee at Perth and Kinross Council on Wednesday of this week, Liz Smith MSP has urged the local authority to do more to promote development of course choice for secondary school pupils in the local area.
Commenting Liz Smith said,
"I am aware of the investment by the previous Scottish Conservative Administration in development of a virtual campus and the work being done across the Tayside Regional Improvement Collaborative to expand the range of courses on offer to young people in the senior phase of secondary school. There is encouraging progress being made and I would very much hope to see more young people having access to a wider range of subject choices. It is really important that we make the very best use of the skills of teachers and new technology to enable young people across Perth and Kinross to access courses without the limitations of having to travel and the timetabling complications that can arise.
"I was interested in questions asked by councillors about ensuring young people have access to appropriate space within schools to participate in online learning and the responses from officers to that. This is great potential for our young people to benefit from this and I look forward to further positive progress."
