Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Liz Smith has welcomed a recent report by Reform Scotland which has highlighted the issue of attendance at school and links between poor attendance and outcomes later in life.
Commenting Liz said,
"I welcome the recent report by Reform Scotland highlighting the number of children and young people not attending school and also discussions last week at the Perth and Kinross Council Learning and Families Committee when the issue of school attendance was raised.
"It is clear from statistics about school attendance post-COVID that there are real issues around encouraging some children and young people to attend school on a regular basis. I note that the Executive Director of Education at Perth and Kinross Council committed that this is to be a subject of further work locally and this is very welcome. I was also encouraged to hear some of the very practical measures local schools are taking to maximise attendance and working with families. The education of so many has been disrupted over recent years and we need to ensure everything possible is done to get back on track as quickly as possible."
