Almond and Earn Ward resident and former Craigie Hill golf Pro, Frank Smith, was elected as the local Councillor for the Almond and Earn ward.
Commenting on his slection, Frank said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as Councillor for Almond and Earn Ward, representing Perth and Kinross Conservatives.
"I was born in Lossiemouth to a fishing family and with fate and good fortune found myself becoming an assistant golf professional at my local club in 1971. In 1973 I moved to Crieff GC, eventually working as Joint Pro with John Stark before moving to Craigie Hill GC in Perth as Head Professional in 1982. After many happy years at the ‘Hill’ I was appointed Head Professional at Ballater GC in 1994 but the pull of Perthshire was too much and after 3 years returned to Perth to open our own golf shop in Highland House. Latterly before retiring I worked as a supervisor with Spectraglass in Perth.
"I am passionate about the Scottish countryside and nature, enjoy hill-walking and recently got into cycling. I love getting out on my ebike with friends and appreciating our beautiful surroundings. My only disappointment when I’m out is the amount of rubbish on our country roads and verges. Along with the multiple incidents of fly-tipping it is quite disgusting and disheartening. I often take a couple of binbags with me on my walk and have them filled only half a mile from my home! I would really like to make a difference to this, coming up with some imaginative ideas and encourage volunteering to clean up our countryside so we can all continue to enjoy it. If nothing else I think the Lockdown has made us appreciate our immediate surrounding ever more. We are very lucky living in such a beautiful area.
"We are living in strange times at the moment but I look forward to getting out and about in the Ward and speaking to you, hearing of any problems you may have that I can help with.”
Liz Smith added: “Frank is widely recognised as a champion of local issues, as someone who cares deeply about his own community and as someone who is always willing to help others.
"I am delighted he has been elected and l very much look forward to working with him in the weeks ahead.”
